Dowell Chill & Grill with Chef Sharwin Tee
The Dowell’s Chill and Grill event yesterday was an afternoon of fun and good food. The ever quirky and cool Chef Sharwin Tee shared with us his unconventional recipes and culinary techniques using the new Dowell Grill Express. It’s an addition to Dowell’s quality indoor grill products and it makes indoor grilling much faster, easier, and with less smoke and odor. Chill & Grill event was created by Dowell for SM Appliance, with the participation of Mama Sita’s BBQ marinade sauce.
Watch Chef Sharwin’s cooking show, Curiosity Got the Chef, every Wednesdays at 9:30 PM . He’s simply adorable and his show inspires me to do well in the kitchen.

The grill is wide and spacious that you can practically throw as much veggies and meats as you want. You may also turn up the heat to 375 degrees for faster cooking (bacon strips cook in just 1 minute!). The heat across the pan is also equally distributed. To clean the plate between cooking sessions, just wipe with paper towel. Isn’t this the best shabu-shabu buddy at home? 🙂
Me, my husband, and the other invited bloggers had the opportunity to use the new grill firsthand as we tried to cook Chef Sharwin’s grilled recipes. I’ll be sharing them with you so prepare your notebooks.
Grilled Watermelon Salad (serves 6)
1/2 large seedless watermelons
2 cups arugula
1 head lollo rossa/rosso lettuce
100 g chevre cheese
2 tbsps balsamic vinegar
4 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
salt, pepper to taste
Slice away the skin of the watermelon and slice into six equal slices, about 1 inch thick. Season with salt and pepper.
Oil the pan, grill the watermelon slices for about 1 minute on each side.
In a bowl, combine balsamic vinegar and olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Toss in arugula and lettuce.
Slice the watermelon pieces into cubes and toss with the greens.
Serve salad with crumbled chevre cheese sprinkled on top.
Grilled BBQ Pork Sandwich (serves 4)
500 g pork tenderloin, sliced thinly
6 leaves of fresh sage
1 teaspoon marjoram
4 pieces ciabatta bread
4 tbsps olive oil
4 tbsps atchara
4 tbsps liver spread
salt, cayenne pepper, and pepper to taste
In a bowl, marinate pork tenderloins in bbq marinade, sage, and marjoram. Marinate for an hour or overnight.
Slice bread in half and grill until toasty. Spread some liver spread on one side.
Grill pork for 2 minutes each side or until cooked. Distribute evenly over the bread and top each with atchara.
Grilled Bacon Rice Cakes (serves 4)
2 cups leftover rice
8 bacon strips
1/4 cup parsley chopped
4 tablespoons hoisin sauce
Salt, cayenne pepper, and pepper to taste
Grill bacon until cooked, about 1 1/2 minutes on each side. Slice bacon into small chunks.
Add the bacon to the rice; add in half the parsley and season with salt and pepper.
Form the rice into small patties the size of hockey pucks.
Grill the rice cakes for 1 1/2 minutes on each side, basting with some of the hoisin sauce.
