E3 2011 Highlights – PS Vita, Wii U and more!

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011 is all about the future of the gaming industry. Top players in the video game industry assemble in Los Angeles to show off their new games and consoles at the E3 conference. Gamers from all over the world unite and celebrate for the most anticipated games and console introductions. For me, E3 2011 means shelling out that hard-earned cash in exchange for an endless fun and entertainment with friends and loved ones.

Sony Playstation Vita

After surviving almost two months of Playstation Network downtime due to a hacking attack last April, fans from around the world had high expectations from Sony during the E3 2011. One of the highlights was the PS Vita. Formerly the NGP (Next Generation Portable), the second PSP has been officially renamed Playstation Vita. There are numerous upcoming titles on display, including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, and Modnation Racers. The PS Vita device is “a revolutionary combination of rich gaming capabilities and social connectivity, bringing users closer to each other and closer to their gaming experiences wherever they are.”

Sony Playstation 3D TV

A 24″ PlayStation-branded HDTV is a cool addition to Sony’s upcoming hardware lineup. “The TV can be used for traditional single-player gaming, or a new 2-player mode which allows a pair of gamers to go head-to-head on the same screen. And we don’t mean splitscreen gaming, with half the TV designated for each player. Instead, Sony’s set uses a two pairs of special glasses to show two players separate images on the same screen. It sounds like black magic, but it works quite well. A button on the top of the goggles changes what you see on the screen, effectively turning the single television into 2.” – Yahoo! News

For only $499 USD, Playstation 3D TV is bundled with an HDMI cable, glasses and Resistance 3 game for only $499. Additional set of glasses will cost $69.

Nintendo Wii U

Wii’s successor, Wii U, is an HD game machine with a controller that looks like an iPad with the same buttons you’d find on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 controller. “The controller features a 6.2-inch touchscreen that can be used to display additional images from the game (or even the whole game!) and to interact with the game via touch commands.” Wii U will hit be available in 2012.
