Peplum Perfect: How to Wear Peplums
Peplums are overskirts or ruffles attached at the waistline of a dress, blouse, or jacket. Like me, you may consider the peplum trend too formal and downright classy, to be worn only during special occasions. Women in the corporate world, as well as trend hoppers, could easily follow with ease, but some may not be able to know how to pull it off. So, here’s how to dress it down a bit (and I hope I succeeded) to make it look all good and casual.
Here’s my take: Your new on-the-go outfit is a peplum blouse, a dark pair of jeans, muted pink oxfords, and a leather jacket in case the weather turns cold. The ensemble looks vintage and gives off a relaxed, rustic vibe.
Peplum dresses in pale and pastel colors are also good starters. Printed varieties may appear too bold so you might want to opt for plain ones first to keep the look subtle. But peplum skirts are exceptions to the rule. You can wear them in any shade and color, printed or plain. My suggestions are, if you’re wearing a bright-colored peplum skirt, pair it with a top in a neutral shade. If you’ve put on a printed skirt, wear a plain-colored top. And, if you’re wearing a skirt in neutral, say nude and black, wear a flattering blouse in bright colors to balance the look.
Peplums also come with an added bonus – they define your waistline. Good enough? Yes? =)
