After watching my husband finish 3 games in PS3 (and sometimes playing with him), this time I was filled with awe and I really enjoyed the game from start to finish. Thumbs up and hands down to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

According to Wikipedia, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is an action-adventure type of video game developed by Naughty Dog (remember Crash Bandicoot in PS1?) and released in October 2009. It is the sequel to the 2007 game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which I haven’t heard of. It was named by Metacritic as the most critically acclaimed game of 2009, and won Game of the Year awards on IGN, Eurogamer, Game Informer, Joystiq, Kotaku, Giant Bomb, AIAS, X-Play, Game Developers Choice Awards, and the Spike Video Game Awards for the year 2009.

National Treasure meets Indiana Jones

Nathan Drake (who looks like Danny O’Donoghue of The Script) is the main character. The game starts with Drake in a train wreck about to fall off a cliff. You’re the one who’s going to figure out how to get your way out of it, taking note of falling objects while you climb. From that moment on, I was hooked.

Throughout the game Drake gets involved in solving puzzles and collecting treasures. The main theme is about the mystery behind Marco Polo’s voyage and from that follows the story about the Cintamani Stone and a place called Shambhala. You get clues through the course of the game and you use them to reveal new mysteries.

Locations change as new challenges/missions arise. You’ll find yourself in a heavy gunfire with enemies within forest bounds, inside museums and temples, on snowy mountains, on moving trains, and around ruined cities and tribes. Each location gives a different feel which makes the game addictive.

The storyline is superb and characters have interesting dialogues. I couldn’t forget this one line from Drake, “I’m tired of climbing shit!” LOL. Yes, the game makes you climb on ledges and enormous statues, swing on poles, jump over rooftops, and run endlessly while being chased by a tank or a helicopter. Uncharted 2 makes the term “action-packed” an understatement.

All PS3 games have excellent graphics by far. You’re not just playing a game, you’re also watching a movie. Uncharted 2 has real-time moving environments and realistic textures. I watched how scenes were made and I’ve discovered that behind each character is a real person acting, a baseline for creating graphics. Downside was, for the first 3 days my eyes hurt like hell.

Ray borrowed the CD from a friend and he returned it back already. 🙁 I’m looking forward to purchasing the third installment, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. It will be released on November 1, 2011. This time I will be playing for real. Though I’m still gonna decide whether or not to choose hard mode like my husband did. 🙂
