If you are new to camping or new to camping with the family, there are some survival tips which will make for an enjoyable occasion for all. No matter what ages your kids are, or what they enjoy, these simple tips will result in a fun time for everyone and will even have your kids asking you to schedule another trip to enjoy together.

A Guide to Camping with your Family

Know their interests

If you have kids, know what they enjoy. If you have an RV, consider having a flat screen TV, gaming system, board games, and other fun activities. But if you are using a tent or a hammock then you will need to think outside the box to entertain the children. If they like sports, bring along some gear for baseball, hiking, or other sports you can play at a campsite.

Plan accordingly

Sometimes, your kids just won’t get along. So, plan the sleeping quarters accordingly. Choose appropriately sized tents and hammocks, if you have an RV or motorhome, give each of them their dedicated space, and give each family member some “me or alone time”. You’re going to enjoy your time together, but being in tight quarters together, for so long, can become frustrating. Understand this when planning your camping trip.

Have all supplies needed

Food, safety equipment, hiking gear, ‘survival items’, pots and pans (for longer camping trips), and anything else you can think of, should be added to your packing list. You don’t want to run into a situation where you run out of food or run out of items a family member loves (or needs for health reasons). Make sure you pack accordingly, given the duration of your camping trip. It is best to overpack and bring items back home, as opposed to not having enough and going without.
