Promil Four iShine ART CAMP with Teacher Robert Alejandro

My son joined this year’s Promil Four i-Shine Talent Camp 6 and our experience was a memorable one.

Z joined the Promil i-Shine ART Camp (Advanced Class) and his mentor was none other than the comical and the super talented Teacher Robert Alejandro. If in case you have no idea who he is, his family owns one of the most popular arts & crafts store Papemelroti (the “ro” is Robert) at siya rin yung nasa Art is Kool.

Promil 4 iShine Talent Camp 6 Philippines

Day 1 (Sessions 1 & 2)

Z has already joined a few art workshops in the past but I still had no idea what to expect from this art camp.. since it was his first time joining Promil i-Shine. The workshop was held in Wyeth PH’s office, one of the best-looking offices I’ve been to so far. Sabi ni Z, parang hotel lang. 🙂

The first time we got there, the Promil staff welcomed us, then the registration, and so on. We also met Teacher Robert.

The kids were given their own art materials. I didn’t know all the details (kasi sa labas lang ng conference room ang mga parents) but part of the introduction was to draw a cartoon version of themselves using a style that Teacher Robert taught them. I think Z’s drawing turned out cute.

They were also taught how to sketch a bird on their drawing pad. Teacher Robert asked the kids to design their own feathery friends.

After lunch Z was having fun creating his flying owl. Z had a hard time finishing his ‘Solar System’ owl because he’s a bit clumsy and his fine motor skills aren’t fully developed yet.

Side story: Going to Rockwell, we took a P2P bus and we arrived 30 minutes early somewhere in Makati, then we GRABbed going to Rockwell. We haven’t had breakfast yet so we dined at the nearest Starbucks. Take note: When you enroll your kids to summer classes and summer workshops, make sure that you’re also prepared for the transportation and meal expenses. Walang biro, magastos siya. Lalo kapag malayo yung venue at malapit pa sa mall. 🙂

Day 2 (Sessions 3 & 4)

Z’s bird sketch was slowly coming to life! May head na yung bird paper sculpture.

Papier Mache art is messy yet fun, according to Z.

The PM session was a new art experience for Z. Teacher Robert encouraged his tutees to play with their imagination by doing a rock painting activity. He demonstrated it first and the kids created their own rock painting creations.

The last part of Day 2′ session was learning how to turn numbers and letters into pictures. Z volunteered to try coming up with a drawing for number 1.

Promil Art Camp Doodling

Side story: We were early the next day so nag-ikot kami sa Ayala Gardens and we checked out The Book Stop Project. I’m a reading advocate so anything related to books interests me.

I cooked Tuna Pesto Pasta the night before so nagbaon kami ni Zaiel for lunch. The little guy’s not a fan of pesto so nag-instant noodles na lang siya. We bought the noodles from the office’s pantry (they have a Grab and Scan system, automated na) and there’s also a beverage machine that everything you get, from hot chocolate to iced tea, is F-R-E-E! 🙂

Day 3 (Session 5)

For Day 3, the campers enjoyed making Bug Art. They designed their own bug banks and Teacher Robert showcased the kids’ masterpieces through a Facebook Live video. 🙂

Meet Z’s solar system bug bank!

May painting activities din. Z’s solar system obsession was evident in his work.

Art Camp Promil - Painting

Side story: No judging, but we love 7-11’s microwaveable meals. Last March when both my little boys were admitted in the hospital for almost two weeks, sinubukan ko yung Baked Chicken ng 7-11, na tapat lang ng hospital. Then si Zaiel, the last time that we waited for hours for his pediatrician to arrive, he ordered the breakfast meal naman. So nung Day 3 sa art camp, we bought 2 meals sa 7-11 tapos dinala namin sa office for our breakfast.

Day 4 (Session 6)

Z was a bit sad during the last day of the Art Camp and he kept saying that he will miss Teacher Robert, as well as the office (and the free drinks LOL). The highlight of the day is the kids’ botanical watercolor art na may sweet message pa for mommies and daddies. 🙂

Thank you so much Teacher Robert! I will never forget this particular conversation I had with Z:

Me: Were you misbehaving? Bakit sinabihan ka ni Teacher Robert kanina ng “No, don’t say that!”? Did you mock one of your seatmates’ work? (Sobrang talkative kasi niya, minsan hindi niya na-aapply yung “think before you speak”)

Z: No mom, wala akong sinabihan na ganun. I told everyone that my painting is ugly. Then si Teacher Robert, ang sabi niya, “No, don’t say that!”

Me: Oh. 🙂

The Recital

The recital for all 4 camps – Art, Engineering, Dance, and Music – was held in Kia Theatre. It was a grand celebration of talents as campers showcased all the skills they learned throughout the duration of the camp.

The kids practiced for 2 days (or more for other camps) and we paid PhP 300 for Z’s costume (beret, apron, and Promil i-Shine Talent Camp shirt).

For disclosure purposes, Z joined this art camp for FREE (one of the perks of being a blogger 🙂 ). Thank you Team PRC and Promil Four!

Promil 4 Art Camp Papier Mache

During the Art Camp’s performance, Z was in his ActivBird costume. May mini act and dance performance sila. Nakaka-proud kapag nakita mong nasa big stage yung anak mo. The whole time I was nervous and excited, parang nagka-anxiety attack ako hahaha.

The finale was nothing less than grand. All the teachers/mentors danced and Promil surprised us with a Mother’s Day card from the kids (the message was something like, “You Make Me Shine..” Teary-eyed ako and I couldn’t contain my happiness kaya sobrang naka-smile ako the whole time.

Thank you Wyeth Philippines and PROMIL FOUR for giving us something to look back to when the kids grow up! 🙂
