Geek Alert: Alodia Gosiengfiao featured on 9gag
I giggled after seeing this photo of Miss Alodia Gosiengfiao last night on 9gag’s FB feed. What’s even more funny is that she is a REAL gamer. Her fans had different reactions but what really matters is that she never took the joke seriously. After all, it was only meant to be “just for fun”. Here’s the link from 9gag.com – “Gamer” Girls.
Being a gamer myself, I was reminded of the issues I’ve dealt with in the past regarding double standards. When I was still active in the world of MMORPGs, female gamers were treated differently. Comments like “go easy on her, she’s a babe”, “of course she’s weak!” and “go play Barbie” were ignored most of the time, but there were moments when I get really upset so I resort to trash talking. Truth is, not all men acknowledge the female existence when it comes to playing video games.
Moving on, here’s my 17-year old Sony Playstation (PS1) memory card. Photo was posted on my Instagram (http://instagram.com/p/TfIsrJsfhd/). I’m now happily married to a gamer dad (raymanexe.com) and we have one geeky gamer kid in the making (http://instagram.com/p/Tz9shLMfhJ/).
Going back to the blog post topic, I really admire the girl’s passion for her craft. Alodia Gosiengfiao, for those who happen to not know her at all, is a famous Filipina cosplayer. She’s also an artist, host, model, actress, celebrity endorser, blogger, figure/doll/toy collector, budding photographer, pianist, fashion icon, social media influencer, anime enthusiast, and as mentioned above, a gamer babe.
She earned the title “Cosplay Goddess” and “Cosplay Queen” of the Philippines for her significant contribution to the cosplay community. Below are some of my personal picks of her cosplay photos taken from her fan page.
Alodia as Lili Rochefort from Tekken. I also cosplayed Lili (well, sort of.. and almost failed haha) 2 years ago but worn one of her other costumes. Check it out here – Naruto Birthday Party Theme.
She won the Hall Costume Award as Amaha Masane of Witchblade during the 2010 San Diego Comic Con.
Alodia as Misa Amane of the manga/anime Death Note. I have the notebook in the form of jewelry. See it here – Death Note earrings.
Harley Quinn from Batman. Such a cosplay masterpiece. My husband and I are both fans of the game Batman Arkham City, by the way.
“Life as a Doll” – Eerie yet artistic.
The Cosplay Goddess as Morrigan Aensland from the video game series Darkstalkers. Probably my favorite among her portrayals.
